Harvest 2017: the comment of Giuseppe Bologna
“This vintage was characterised by very little precipitation, most of if falling during storms: brief but intense.
In the young vineyards and in the sandier areas of the older ones, we intervened with emergency irrigation to alleviate vegetative stress.
Our commitment to soil and vine management gave excellent results in the best positions and exposures (our “Bricchi”) where the ripening process risked grinding to a halt due to high summer temperatures.
The wines could be very interesting, but it’s too early to make an accurate assessment.
I am particularly pleased with the “Limonte”, which seems to have used the high temperatures perfectly to mature the complex tannic structure of the Grignolino grape variety.
The Barbera are all very rich in colour, flavour and structure, but we will have to wait and see what happens after the malo-lactic fermentation to express our opinion with regard to elegance.
Great Brachetto d’Acqui and Moscato d’Asti Vigna senza nome, nicely intense with an extensive aromatic spectrum and full body, without ever becoming too sweet”.
