BETWEEN LANGHE AND MONFERRATO
The Braida properties are located between the Monferrato Astigiano and Langhe districts. The heart of the activity is represented by the vineyards of Rocchetta Tanaro, with their medium consistency soils featuring sand and clay in almost equal parts. Home to the valuable crus of Bricco dell’Uccellone and Montebruna and land made up of silt-rich soils where Grignolino d’Asti Limonte is born. Other vineyards are located in Castelnuovo Calcea and Costigliole d’Asti, also in Monferrato, characterised by loose and light soils composed of calcareous sand in the first case and clayey-limestone with excellent hillside exposure in the second. In the Langa, Moscato is grown in the predominantly sandy-calcareous soils of Mango. From the loose soils, rich in sand mixed with limestone marl, of Trezzo Tinella comes the production of still white wines marketed under the label of Serra dei Fiori, an estate created and run together with brothers Renzo and Valerio Giacosa.
Monferrato Astigiano
The main composition of the soil is of medium consistency, with equal parts of sand and clay. Here, wines with a more intense aromatic and taste spectrum than those grown in looser soils are obtained.
Loose soil consisting of calcareous sands, therefore light, with a tendency to warm up easily and quickly, even deep down, allowing the roots to begin working very early in the year.
Clayey-calcareous soil with excellent hillside exposure, which helps give the wines great body and particularly intense aromas.
Langhe
The predominantly calcareous sand soil allows excellent drainage of the water and allows good vigour of the plants without excessive growth and quantity.
Loose soils rich in sand mixed with calcareous marl, predominantly southerly exposure, the hill’s natural amphitheatre shape and high altitude, combined with an excellent temperature range, allow the grapes to ripen slowly, reaching late maturity, and this gives Serra dei Fiori wines a pleasant depth and elegance.
